Mark Ruffalo was born 22nd November 1967 Wisconsin, USA. He is an American, best known for his acting, taking on the role of Hulk in the Marvel Comics series. Ruffalo is also a filmmaker and social activist.
His career began in 1989 in an episode of “CBS Summer Playhouse” and between then and 2010 he appeared in “13 going on 30”, “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind” and “Shutter Island” to name a few. He received nominations for a SAG Award, BAFTA and Academy Award for his role in “The Kids Are All Right”.
His portrayal of Hulk started in 2012 with “The Avengers”, after he took over the role from Edward Norton. He then subsequently returned to the role in “Avengers: Age of Ultron”, “Thor: Ragnarok”, “Avengers: Infinity War” and is set to return for the as yet untitled sequel.
He has won a total of 20 awards throughout his career and been nominated for a further 47, three of these were Oscar nominations.
Ruffalo is one of four children, two sisters and one brother who, sadly, died in 2008. He has a mixed heritage with his father being Italian and his mother half-French Canadian, half-Italian.

Mark was raised Catholic but said that he lost his faith in the Catholic church at a young age. He was at school being taught by a nun who was mean and treated him differently because he had learning difficulties. Mark is a Democrat and often uses his position to speak openly to the public about politics, when accepting awards or giving interviews; he feels he has a responsibility to do so as an actor and activist.

Mark is also a strong advocate for addressing climate change issues and his Facebook page talks about his foundation of the Water Defense to raise awareness about energy extraction and renewable energy.

As an active environmentalist, Mark really throws himself into this, but he has said that he has taken up meditation in order to deal with his anxiety. He also frequents comic book stores with his son.
In 2012 Mark was named one of Time Magazine’s “People Who Mattered” for his work as an environmentalist.
His brother was shot in the head in 2008 and his murder case remains unsolved to this day.
Ruffalo was once diagnosed with a brain tumour. He had surgery to remove it and it transpires it was benign however, he suffered from temporary facial paralysis which, once recovered from, left him deaf in his left ear.
