At the age of 27, British born
Naomi Campbell has already conquered the fashion world, setting modeling
runways and magazine covers ablaze with a sophisticated, sultry style that
has made her a media star and international celebrity. After only a few
years in the modeling business, she quickly began breaking new ground,
becoming the first black model to appear on the covers of TIME MAGAZINE,
and French and British VOGUE. Since then she has become a veritable
renaissance woman proving herself exceptional beyond the realm of
supermodel. In 1995, she made her debut as a recording artist with "Babywoman"
released by Epic Records. Her release "La, La, La Love Song"
with Japanese singer Toshi reached #1 in Japan. Naomi has also appeared in
numerous music videos including Michael Jackson's sizzling "In The
Closet" video directed by Herb Ritts.
Naomi is also making a name
for herself in the world of film and television. She appeared in Spike
Lee's "Girl 6" costarring Madonna and Theresa Randle and will be
seen in the upcoming "An Alan Smithee Film" starring Sylvester
Stallone, Whoppi Goldberg and Jackie Chan. Other film credits include
"Miami Rhapsody" opposite Antonio Banderas, Sarah Jessica Parker
and Mia Farrow and Tony Hickox's "Invasion of Privacy." Naomi's
television credits include "NY Undercover" and 'Fresh Prince of
Bel Air" among others. Naomi who co-authored a best-selling novel,
"Swan" published by Heinemann/Mandarin, followed up with the
photo book titled "Naomi". The book is a personal selection of
photos from photographers Herb Ritts, Steven Meisel, Richard Avedon, Ellen
Von Unwerth and Peter Lindbergh.
Proceeds from the sales of
the book are being donated to the Red Cross Somalia Relief Fund. Naomi is
also active in many other initiatives supporting underprivileged children.
She recently joined the Dalai Lama in fund raising efforts through UNESCO
to build kindergartens for poor communities worldwide, the first to built
in her name in her spiritual home of Jamaica.
